Sri Lanka, May 2 -- Public Security Minister Anandha Wijepala has announced that an investigation has commenced into death threats received by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, over a phone call.
It was reported that IGP Tennakoon has also written to Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya, requesting increased security due to these threats.
Police have reportedly uncovered intelligence regarding a potential plot to assassinate IGP Tennakoon.
Sources suggest that the alleged assassination plot is being orchestrated by Kanjipani Imran, an alleged organised crime figure and international drug trafficker.
