Sri Lanka, Feb. 14 -- The new National Sports Council has been appointed under the chairmanship of former Sri Lanka Rugby captain Priyantha Ekanayake. Among the 13 members are Sidath Wettimuny, Roshan Mahanama, and Sriyani Kulawansa.

The council was appointed today (14) by Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage in accordance with the provisions of the Sports Act No. 25 of 1973, with the aim of advising the minister on the promotion, development, and governance of sports in Sri Lanka.

Ekanayake, a former Sri Lanka rugby captain, has played for New Zealand and Wales rugby clubs and has served as the president of the Sri Lanka and Asian Rugby Unions.
