Sri Lanka, Sept. 15 -- The Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) has accused the government of taking "continuous revenge" against private bus operators and is threatening an island-wide strike.
The association's chairman, Gemunu Wijerathne, said that there is growing anger within the industry over the government's policies.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Wijerathne claimed that private buses played a major role in the government's election campaign.
He warned that "trying to remove the private bus culture from the country is like playing with fire."
He criticised the new taxes and regulations imposed on the sector, which he says have made it extremely difficult to import buses.
