Sri Lanka, Sept. 15 -- The Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) has accused the government of taking 'continuous revenge' against private bus operators and is threatening an island-wide strike.

The LPBOA chairman Gemunu Wijerathne said that there was a growing anger within the industry over the government's policies.

Speaking to the media, Wijerathne claimed that private buses played a major role in the government's election campaign and warned that 'trying to remove the private bus culture from the country is like playing with fire'.

Criticising new taxes and regulations imposed on the sector, he said that it had made it extremely difficult to import buses.
