Sri Lanka, June 29 -- The Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) is urging authorities to postpone the implementation of the mandatory seatbelt rule for bus drivers.

LPBOA Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne told Hiru News that older buses lack seatbelts, and bus owners require more time to install them.

This request comes after the National Transport Commission (NTC) Chairman, Engineer P.A. Chandrapala, recently announced that the rule would be enforced from the day after tomorrow (1).

However, Wijeratne, while agreeing that the law should be implemented, questioned the NTC's authority to intervene in this matter.
