Sri Lanka, Dec. 17 -- Prison guards at the Galle jail fired warning shots into the air to stop two inmates attempting to flee the premises.

Prison Commissioner and Spokesperson Jagath Weerasinghe states that the incident occurred around 1:45 PM today (17) when two remand prisoners tried to scale the prison wall.

Upon witnessing the escape attempt, officers discharged their firearms into the sky to intimidate the suspects.

The spokesperson notes that the two inmates, frightened by the gunfire, jumped back into the prison grounds.

Both individuals sustained minor injuries during the jump and received admission to the prison hospital for treatment.
