Sri Lanka, June 2 -- The President, kicking off the 'National Tax Week' today (2), addressed the growing public concern over how tax money is being used and why many people are hesitant to pay their taxes.
He stated the system is confusing, inconvenient, and has led to a loss of trust.
He also revealed that some groups are helping people commit tax fraud and avoid paying taxes.
This, he said, is part of a bigger problem with how people view the entire tax system.
The President also shared troubling statistics.
In 2023 and 2024, only 43% of registered companies filed their corporate income tax reports.
Just 23% of individuals submitted their income tax returns.
