Sri Lanka, May 1 -- On May 1, Sri Lanka joined the global community in commemorating International Workers' Day, a day rooted in the 1886 Haymarket Square protests in Chicago.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his May Day message, highlighted the nation's current period of "profound and progressive transformation.
" Dissanayake emphasised that Sri Lanka is moving away from a 76-year legacy of "corrupt and elitist political system" marked by a "rotating power structure dominated by a select few influential families across generations.
