Sri Lanka, Feb. 28 -- President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in a special statement in Parliament today (28) on national security, announced plans to restructure the military, reducing personnel while enhancing technological capabilities.

By 2030, the Army will be limited to 100,000 personnel, the Navy to 40,000, and the Air Force to 18,000. The President emphasized that despite this reduction, efforts will be made to modernize the military with advanced technology.

He noted that many aircraft, weapons, and ships are nearing expiry, which poses challenges for national security. The government aims to equip the forces with state-of-the-art technology and develop a professional military with an advanced mindset.
