Sri Lanka, April 17 -- President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has announced plans to provide relief benefits to an additional 400,000 families.

He made this announcement while addressing a public meeting in Mannar.

The meeting was part of the "Jaya Niyathai - Gama Apitai" series of public rallies organised by the National People's Power, focusing on the upcoming local government elections.

The rally was held this morning under the patronage of the Head of State.

Furthermore, President Dissanayake stated that discussions are ongoing regarding the commencement of a ferry service between Mannar in Sri Lanka and Rameshwaram in India.

He said that relevant discussions are being held with the Indian government.
