Sri Lanka, April 25 -- Postal voting for the 339 local government elections began at 8 am yesterday morning (24).Monitoring organisations have reported that the process has proceeded peacefully so far.
The Election Commission has confirmed that postal voting will continue today (25), and on April 28 and 29, at various state institutions, including the Election Commissioner's Office, Police Department, and District Secretariats.
A total of 663,499 postal vote applications were received for this year's local government elections, of which 648,490 were accepted.Rohana Hettiarachchi, the Executive Director of the PAFFREL organisation, has highlighted this discrepancy as a significant shortfall.
