Sri Lanka, Feb. 7 -- The Colombo High Court has sentenced an office assistant at the Colombo Central Post Office to 28 years of rigorous imprisonment with hard labor for accepting a bribe of Rs. 11,000 from a businessman to release a stock of imported security cameras without paying tax. The sentence must be served in seven years.

Colombo High Court Judge Mahen Weeraman also imposed a fine of Rs. 31,000 on the accused while delivering the verdict.

The Bribery Commission had filed an indictment against the accused on September 19, 2016, over the bribery incident involving the release of 30 CCTV camera sets. The High Court ruled that the prosecution had proven the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
