Sri Lanka, April 15 -- Political parties and independent groups were instructed to provide copies of the petitions and judgments pertaining to any legal action taken against the rejection of nominations for the Local Government Elections scheduled for May 6, to the relevant District Election Offices.

This was announced by the Election Commission.

The Commission made this announcement against a backdrop where election monitoring groups have expressed concern regarding the lack of a confirmed number of local government bodies where elections will be held on the scheduled date of May 6th.

They highlight that communication issues among the relevant institutions appear to be the cause of this uncertainty.
