Sri Lanka, Sept. 9 -- Police have issued a special public notice regarding the dangerous situations that can arise from releasing sky lanterns.
Some people release sky lanterns for fun during special events in various parts of the country. There is a risk that these lanterns could fall to the ground while on fire, causing destruction.
The police stated that if these lit lanterns fall on places like fireworks factories, fuel stations, fuel storage sites, houses, and other buildings, they could cause damage to both property and lives.
It has been observed that lanterns are also being released at Galle Face Green in Colombo.
