Sri Lanka, March 24 -- The police have requested the Maha Sangha to intervene in preventing crimes, including murders, stating that such involvement before police action could contribute to building a better society.

DIG Nishantha de Zoysa, in charge of Matara and Hambantota, made this remark during a ceremony in Balapitiya welcoming the newly appointed General Secretary of the Amarapura Maha Sangha Sabha, Darshanapati Rajakeeya Pandita Venerable Balapitiye Siriseevali Thero.
