Sri Lanka, June 6 -- A Police Sub-Inspector serving at the Mahiyangana Police Station committed suicide this morning, the 6th of June, by shooting himself in the neck with a T56 firearm inside a room at the station.
The deceased has been identified as Sub-Inspector Atthanayake Mudiyanselage Upasena Atthanayake, a 57-year-old married police officer residing at Bogahamulawatta, Randenigala Road, Weraganatota, Hasalaka, and attached to the Mahiyangana Police.
Preliminary investigations reveal that he reported for duty from home this morning, stated he needed to go for an official task, signed out a T56 firearm with 30 rounds and a magazine, and then proceeded to a room next to the Assistant Superintendent of Police's office at the Mahiyang...
