Sri Lanka, July 20 -- Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasuriya, has indicated that a salary increase for police officers could be implemented next year.

He made these remarks while attending a programme in Ratnapura District, where school supplies were distributed to the children of police officers.

IGP Weerasuriya highlighted the health challenges faced by officers, stating, "If you look at police officers, 20% to 40% suffer from non-communicable diseases. Another 30% are yet to be examined. Only the remaining 30% are in a somewhat healthy physical condition. Some officers face domestic issues, work-related problems, and various non-communicable diseases."
