Sri Lanka, Dec. 6 -- All police units were instructed to take maximum measures to prevent groups from forcibly seizing relief items being transported to areas affected by disaster.
These instructions follow a letter issued by the Commissioner General of Essential Services on December 5, 2025, detailing several incidents where groups stopped vehicles and forcibly took goods donated to disaster-hit communities.
The Commissioner General requested that legal action be taken against those involved in these acts.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) in turn directed all police divisions to give the issue personal attention and ensure that such acts stop within their respective areas.
