Sri Lanka, Sept. 11 -- According to Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, police officers have the highest rate of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among all state employees.

The Minister, speaking at the launch of the "Arogya" mobile health clinic programme for the Sri Lanka Police in the Gampaha District, revealed that about 30% of NCD cases in the public sector are found within the police force.

Dr. Jayatissa stated that with approximately 84,000 personnel, the police carry significant public sector responsibilities, and ensuring their health is critical. He noted that a substantial number of officers die on duty due to NCDs.
