Sri Lanka, Sept. 29 -- A Police officer from Galewela Police Station has been admitted to Dambulla Hospital after being injured when an explosive device, known locally as a 'bandina kanda', detonated during a raid on illegal liquor production.
The incident occurred earlier today (29), morning near the Shoe Bridge in Tennakoonpura, Galewela.
Police suspect the device was a trap set to target animals that stray onto nearby farmlands.
The officer injured and hospitalised is Police Sergeant 40522 Krishantha, who is attached to the Galewela Police Station.
No arrests have been made so far.
The Galewela Police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
