Sri Lanka, Jan. 20 -- Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered the release of a Nilaveli police officer on bail today (20) following allegations that he accepted a Rs. 10,000 bribe to issue a police report.

The Magistrate imposed two personal bails of Rs. 500,000 each and implemented a foreign travel ban on the suspect.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption produced the officer in court, stating the arrest followed a complaint by a woman from the Nilaveli area.

Legal counsel representing the suspect argued that the accusations were fabricated by the complainant due to a personal dispute and requested bail on his behalf.
