Srilanka, Dec. 26 -- A special island-wide police operation conducted throughout Christmas Day (25) resulted in the arrest of 322 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to police reports, officers inspected a total of 29,539 people during the 24-hour crackdown.
The operation also targeted various other offences, leading to the following enforcement actions:
493 suspects were detained, including 15 individuals directly linked to serious criminal activities.
Police apprehended 179 suspects with court-issued warrants and 88 individuals with open warrants.
A total of 4,414 cases were filed for traffic rule violations, while 36 drivers were arrested specifically for reckless driving.
