Sri Lanka, Feb. 24 -- A General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) student received police assistance to attend her examination centre after being hospitalised following an assault by her father. Aluthgama Police Headquarters facilitated her transport in a police jeep to ensure she did not miss her papers.

The student, a resident of Dharga Town, attended a friend's house with her younger sister after finishing an exam last Saturday. Police state that the father, who cares for the girls in the absence of their mother, became enraged by their late return and physically assaulted both daughters.
