Sri Lanka, May 29 -- The police have taken steps to deploy a motorcycle squadron capable of immediate deployment to apprehend fleeing suspects and swiftly intervene in crimes that disrupt public peace.
This initiative comes as it has been identified that the Southern Province requires armed police teams to be actively deployed in the field.
Accordingly, a specially organised motorcycle squadron has been deployed under the leadership of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kithsiri Jayalath, who is in charge of the Southern Province.
The squadron comprises 8 combat motorcycles and 15 highway motorcycles, drawn from the Tangalle and Matara Police Divisions, with approximately 46 officers assigned to it.
