Sri Lanka, March 5 -- The police have received 30 advanced speed gun devices aimed at reducing road accidents. These high-tech devices, imported from the United States, are capable of detecting vehicles from a distance of 1.2 km and can be used effectively even at night, said Senior Superintendent of Police Manoj Ranawala, Director of Traffic Control and Road Safety.
These speed guns capture critical data, including the speed of the vehicle, the driver's photograph, and the vehicle number. The recorded footage can also be presented as evidence in court.
According to SSP Ranawala, from 2020 to 2024, there were 11,617 road accidents, 33,259 serious accidents, and 12,322 fatalities. By February 26, 2025, the death toll had already reached ...
