Sri Lanka, Aug. 28 -- A man has been arrested after a dramatic escape attempt that ended with him jumping into a crocodile-infested river while still in handcuffs.
The incident began last night when Millaniya police were called to a local shop. A thief was caught in the act by the shop owner, and in the ensuing struggle, the owner was stabbed and injured.
He has since been transferred to Panadura Hospital for further treatment. This morning, police launched a search and successfully apprehended the suspect.
However, as the officers were transporting him to the police station on a motorcycle, the suspect allegedly used his handcuffs to choke the officer driving, causing them to crash.
