Sri Lanka, Sept. 9 -- The Ganemulla Police reported that a man and a woman have been arrested and remanded for illegally possessing 83 passports and for defrauding numerous individuals by promising them jobs in Italy.
The suspects, a 51-year-old man from Wattala and a 62-year-old woman from Ganemulla, had allegedly collected lakhs of rupees from people across the country by giving them false promises.
Police believe that a person living in Italy is also involved in the racket. and are working to identify other suspects connected to the operation.
The couple was presented before the Gampaha Magistrate's Court and the case will be taken up again on September 16. remanded until the 16th of this month.
