Sri Lanka, Sept. 12 -- Police have arrested 666 suspects in a nationwide crime and drug prevention operation conducted yesterday.

The operation was carried out under the instructions of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), after the police examined over 27,000 people.

The suspects arrested include 16 people directly identified with crimes, along with 218 individuals with warrants and 156 with open warrants.

The police also arrested 49 drivers for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and reported 22 instances of reckless driving.
