Sri Lanka, Feb. 6 -- Police have arrested a man who posed as a police inspector from the Computer Crime Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department and defrauded women of money.

The suspect, a retired Navy officer from Pilimalawa, Kandy, was arrested in Hanwella. Police stated that he contacted women who advertised weddings in newspapers, claiming to be a CID officer.

He allegedly told the women that a mobile phone he had found contained their nude photographs and demanded money to prevent an investigation. In some cases, he intimidated victims and extorted amounts ranging from Rs. 45,000 to Rs. 200,000.
