Sri Lanka, May 5 -- A 47-year-old mother of two from Walpita, Akurassa, tragically died yesterday (4) after falling near the Red Bridge, below the Japanese Peace Pagoda on the Nallathanniya - Sri Pada route.

Nallathanniya Police reported that the woman, who was on a pilgrimage to Sri Pada with her husband, two children, and other villagers, sustained severe injuries in the fall.

Officers from the Nallathanniya Police and the Mawussakelle Army Camp promptly transported her to the Maskeliya Regional Hospital.

However, hospital sources confirmed that she had already passed away upon arrival.

The group was returning to Nallathanniya after completing their pilgrimage when the incident occurred.
