Sri Lanka, Oct. 15 -- Pooneryn Police report the arrest of a pharmacy owner and his assistant yesterday (14) in connection with the alleged abduction, murder, and theft of a woman.
The police stated that the suspects are believed to have beaten the woman on the head with a blunt object, set her on fire using kerosene, pushed her into a lagoon, and forced her to drink water as part of the murder.
The woman's body was discovered on the lagoon shore near the Sanguppiddy roadblock on the Jaffna-Pooneryn road around 5:00 PM on the 12th.
Police also suspect that the arrested individuals stole the victim's gold jewelry, valued at over Rs. 3 million and weighing 11 sovereigns.
