Sri Lanka, Sept. 15 -- The renovation of the Pettah Central Bus Stand is set to begin today (15).
The project is estimated to cost Rs. 424 million.
The project, which was approved by the Cabinet, will modernize and develop the bus stand, which has fallen into disrepair over the years.
Built in 1964, the bus stand handles around 1,500 daily bus trips.
Decades without proper maintenance have left the access roads, bus bays, passenger shelters, rest areas for drivers and conductors, administrative buildings, and the sanitation and drainage systems in a very poor state.
