Sri Lanka, Feb. 16 -- The Ministry of Defense has ordered that the passports of all Army soldiers below the rank of Major be kept in the custody of their respective Regimental Centers with immediate effect.
The Center Commanding Officers will be responsible for safeguarding the passports and implementing necessary security measures. Soldiers will be able to retrieve their passports with the approval of the Ministry of Defense when required.
According to the Army, a proper procedure has been put in place for this process. Army Media Spokesperson Brigadier Waruna Gamage stated that the measure is part of a program to expedite soldiers' peacekeeping duties and overseas training.
