Sri Lanka, Jan. 22 -- The foundation stone for the reconstruction of the Paranthan Chemical Factory was laid yesterday (21) at the Paranthan Chemical Industrial Zone, four decades after its closure. Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti presided over the ceremony.

Originally established in 1954 in the Kilinochchi District of the Northern Province, the facility operated as a state-owned enterprise. It was later reorganized under the Paranthan Chemical Corporation in 1957 following the State Industrial Corporations Act. Due to the conflict in the Northern Province, the factory ceased operations in 1985.
