Sri Lanka, April 20 -- Pakistan has deported more than 19,500 Afghan nationals so far this month, according to the United Nations, as part of an accelerated crackdown on undocumented migrants and refugees whose temporary stay permits have expired.

The deportations come ahead of a 30 April deadline, by which the Pakistani government has ordered all undocumented Afghans to leave the country.

The UN says over 80,000 Afghans have already left voluntarily or been expelled in recent weeks.

According to Taliban officials, between 700 and 800 Afghan families are being deported daily, with estimates suggesting up to two million Afghans could be forced out in the coming months.
