Sri Lanka, May 14 -- Dr. Sanjay Perera, the convener of the Western Province Task Force on Road Safety Challenges, has stated that transporting passengers beyond the seating capacity of buses is completely illegal and that even the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) violates this law.

He emphasised this point during a discussion with Hiru News regarding the fatal bus incident in the Kotmale - Gerandi Ella area, which claimed 22 lives.

Dr. Perera also asserted that the buses imported to Sri Lanka from India are often substandard.
