Sri Lanka, May 29 -- The Illegal Assets Investigation Division has taken steps to freeze assets worth over Rs. 100 million belonging to a businessman in Embilipitiya.
He is alleged to have amassed his wealth through illegal means and large-scale drug trafficking.
The frozen assets include a three-storey building with a private pharmacy, located opposite the Embilipitiya General Hospital, and a hotel situated opposite Chandrika Lake.
These properties were reportedly purchased in the name of the businessman's wife, and he has been unable to account for the source of the funds used for their acquisition.
Accordingly, the relevant property has been frozen for a period of seven days.
