Sri Lanka, Jan. 23 -- 93 people lost their lives in 89 fatal road incidents within the Kalutara Police Division during 2024. Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Kalutara District, Padmini Weerasuriya, shared these statistics during a meeting of the Kalutara Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the District Secretariat.
Beyond the fatalities, the region recorded 215 serious injuries, 278 minor injuries, and 73 cases of property damage resulting from road mishaps. The Deputy Inspector General also highlighted that 1,356 crimes occurred in the division last year, including 158 assaults, 605 burglaries and thefts, and 266 other property-related offences.
