Sri Lanka, Sept. 9 -- The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has destroyed more than 4.5 metric tons of expired dried fish and dates.
The goods were seized from three businesses in the Wattala and Hendala areas after a successful prosecution at the Welisara Magistrate's Court.
The confiscated stock included 3.6 metric tons of expired dates, one metric ton of expired sprats, and 300 kilograms of other dried fish.
The traders responsible were fined a total of Rs. 55,000 for violating the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.
The CAA issued a reminder to all traders that storing expired products with goods meant for sale is a punishable offense, emphasizing that this action is crucial for protecting consumer rights.
