Sri Lanka, May 4 -- Sri Lanka has lost over three billion rupees due to trade union strikes conducted over the past decade, according to the Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences (PGIHS) at the University of Peradeniya, Prof. PPA Wasantha Athukorala.
662,388 working days have been lost in the 386 strikes which took place over the last ten years, he said.
115,356 workers had taken part in these strikes, he added.
He noted that 2018 saw the largest number of strikes, at 51.
Sector-wise, Education, Health, Estates, Transport, and Garments saw the highest number of strikes being carried out.
