Sri Lanka, Dec. 20 -- The Oruthotawella suspension bridge has been completely destroyed due to the release of water from the Lower Kotmale Gamini Dissanayake Reservoir following the impact of Cyclone Ditwah.

The Oruthotawella suspension bridge, constructed across the Kotmale Oya connecting the villages of Harangala and Nayapana in the Kotmale West Divisional Secretariat Division, served as a vital crossing for residents of Harangala Iluktenna, Ratmalapitiya, Harangala, Gala Udupatana, Halgolla, Hapugastalawa, as well as Nayapana, Nugawela, Kadadora, and surrounding areas.

The bridge had been in a severely dilapidated condition, and renovation work had recently been initiated by the current government.
