Sri Lanka, Oct. 15 -- An elephant calf, approximately one month old, was found abandoned by residents after a herd of wild elephants, which had strayed into the Kekirawa area from the Kala Balalu Wewa region, returned to the reserve.
The residents tied the calf to a tree and handed it over to Wildlife officials.
Wildlife officers from Kekirawa, Galgiriyaagama, and the surrounding areas quickly arrived at the location and provided security for the young calf. The elephant was tied near a shop close to the Mastana Culvert on the Kekirawa-Dambulla main road, with the assistance of the Police.
