Sri Lanka, Aug. 7 -- The opposition has decided to propose the appointment of a parliamentary select committee to draft a new constitution for Sri Lanka.
Speaking to Hiru News, the Chief Opposition Whip Gayantha Karunathilaka confirmed that the proposal will be presented to Parliament during the upcoming parliamentary week.
Karunathilaka highlighted that the current government had promised to draft a new constitution during the last elections and accused them of "strategically forgetting" this pledge.
He stated that the purpose of the select committee proposal is to remind the government of its promise and to expedite the process of creating a new constitution.
