Sri Lanka, April 26 -- Samagi Jana Balawegaya MPs Kavinda Jayawardena and Hector Appuhamy have travelled to the Vatican today (25), to pay their final respects to the late Pope Francis.

In a Facebook post, MP Kavinda Jayawardhana stated that they had paid their last respects to the departed Pope and that their attendance, as two opposition MPs, represented both the opposition and the people of Sri Lanka as a whole.

He further noted that Pope Francis had shown a deep affection and concern for Sri Lanka and its people.

He highlighted the Pope's advocacy for justice in the aftermath of the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, and his active involvement in related efforts.
