Sri Lanka, Feb. 18 -- Opposition party leaders from Parliament have met with the Election Commission today (18) to address concerns surrounding the local government elections.
The representatives have urged the Commission to set a date for the elections and highlighted a major challenge the government may face: the payment of salaries to government employees in April.
They warned that failure to meet promises made before the elections could lead to disappointment among voters. The leaders also called on the Election Commission to uphold its independence and credibility, resisting any pressure from the government.
