Sri Lanka, Aug. 27 -- Sri Lanka's Leader of the Opposition, Sajith Premadasa, has formally asked Britain's Prince William to help with the country's elephant conservation efforts.

He warned that the increasing conflict between humans and elephants is putting both lives and biodiversity at risk.

Mr Premadasa handed a letter for the Prince of Wales to the British High Commissioner, Andrew Patrick, in Colombo.

The letter highlights that Sri Lanka is home to one of the world's largest populations of Asian elephants.

The letter also mentioned that the conflict results in the deaths of over 400 elephants and 150 people each year, emphasising the need for a national conservation strategy based on scientific evidence.
