Sri Lanka, Jan. 15 -- The joint opposition, led by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), secured control of the Finance Committee, the most influential body within the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC). During a vote held at the monthly council meeting yesterday (14), five out of the six committee members elected were from the opposition.
Rehan Zaarook, the Opposition Leader of the CMC, stated that while the opposition now holds power within this critical committee, they intend to support development initiatives that benefit the public. He emphasised that their role would be to ensure financial transparency rather than obstructing beneficial projects.
