Sri Lanka, Jan. 18 -- An opposition-backed alliance has secured a decisive victory in the election held to appoint representatives for the Alawwa Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society.
The opposition group won a total of 83 seats, while the National People's Power (NPP) secured 17 seats.
Within the 83 seats won by the joint opposition, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) emerged as the dominant force, claiming 60 of those positions.
