Sri Lanka, May 10 -- The recovery operation for the Bell 212 helicopter that crashed into the Maduru Oya reservoir, killing six of the twelve people on board, has commenced.

Air Force Media Spokesperson, Group Captain Eranda Geeganage, stated that the Sri Lanka Navy's diving teams are assisting in the recovery efforts.

Furthermore, the Coast Guard Department is also providing support for the operation.

The Bell 212 helicopter was on a practice session for a graduation ceremony at the Maduru Oya Special Forces Training School when it crashed.

The aircraft had taken off from the Hingurakgoda Air Force Base at 6.48 am yesterday and crashed around 8.16 am.
