Sri Lanka, April 16 -- The traditional oil anointing ceremony for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year got underway at 09:04 this morning (16).

Kohomba (Neem) leaves are placed on the head and Kolon leaves under the feet before anointing with a mixture of Kohomba juice and oil, followed by a bath.

The state-sponsored national oil anointing ceremony is set to be held at the Natha Devalaya, within the premises of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.

Hiru TV organised its grand oil anointing ceremony at the Vaskaduwa Rajaguru Sri Subhuthi Maha Vihara, the temple enshrining the revered Kapilavastu relics.
